In private lessons, your instructor sets the starting point and pace, so ages can be more flexible than the ages on these cards.
Same instructor, same time. Your child meets the same live instructor each week, on a set day and time, over Zoom.
50 minutes of real building. Each lesson is built around a project, from a first Scratch game to a multiplayer Python game or a Minecraft mod.
Questions, not answers. Instructors use the CodaKid Mastery Method, a Socratic approach: they guide with questions so your child learns to solve problems on their own, and becomes an independent coder who understands project architecture, planning, and real computer programming and AI.
Practice between lessons. Optional homework, plus 24/7 AI-powered learning support trained on CodaKid’s curriculum, plus scheduled support sessions with a real teacher.
You always know where things stand. You get a progress report after each session.
Each level is designed to take four to six months and is made up of several projects. A few examples:
Scratch. Scratch 1: Cadet (ages 7 to 10) builds a base in events, loops, coordinates, conditionals, variables and randomization.
Python. Python 1: Explorer starts at age 8, then Python 2 and 3 add functions, inheritance, recursion and multiplayer games, leading to Advanced Python (12+), which works with large language model AI tools.
Minecraft. Minecraft Modding 1: Explorer (ages 9+) builds custom swords, blocks and ores with MCreator.
Roblox. Roblox Game Dev 1: Explorer (ages 9+) builds obstacle courses, adventure maps and a pet simulator in Lua.
Independent study. Teens 13 and up can plan and build their own games with one of our most senior engineers as a mentor.
Instructors can also teach AI, JavaScript, web development, Unity and Unreal Engine.

Not sure which plan? Complete beginners usually start with Private (one lesson a week). Kids who want to become independent game developers or web programmers as fast as possible do well with Private Accelerated (two, three or four lessons a week). Families who want a lighter schedule can choose the $149 a month blended learning plan: one private 50-minute lesson every two weeks, with longer assignments on our self-study platform during off weeks.

What ages are private lessons for?
Kids and teens ages 6 to 18. Your instructor sets the starting point, from a first Scratch game for a 6-year-old to AI and game engines for teens.
Who are the instructors?
CodaKid certified instructors from top universities, vetted for both programming skill and the ability to teach kids, and trained in the CodaKid Mastery Method.
Will my child have the same instructor every week?
We make every effort to keep the same instructor each week. If there is a family emergency or a seasonal change and we need a new instructor, we will make sure the new match is a fit. Every plan includes a 100% instructor match guarantee.
How much do private lessons cost?
Private is $249 a month for one 50-minute lesson a week, and Private Accelerated is $450 a month for two a week. Our $149 a month blended learning plan combines one private 50-minute lesson every two weeks with longer assignments on our self-study platform during off weeks. Plans include live instruction over Zoom, homework help through 24/7 AI learning support and scheduled support sessions, progress reports and access to the CodaKid platform.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Your first session is a free trial session, and you are not charged until after it. We offer one free trial per family; if you want to add more children, contact us.
When is my card charged?
Only if you continue after the free trial session. Your card is charged before your child’s second session, and then automatically each month on the card on file. The exact timing of that first charge depends on your schedule and how often your child has lessons.
Can we cancel or pause?
Yes. Private plans are billed month to month with no long-term contract, and you can cancel from your next billing date forward. You can also pause your account for a vacation and pick up when you return.
What if we need to reschedule?
You can reschedule up to 24 hours before your session. Sessions missed without 24 hours’ notice cannot be made up or refunded, because we still pay our instructors for that time.
Can a sibling join?
Yes. With our 2-on-1 sibling special, your child can invite a sibling or friend to their private lesson at no extra charge.
What computer does my child need?
A desktop or laptop running Windows 10 or newer, or macOS 11 or newer, with a working microphone and webcam, and an internet connection of at least 10 Mbps. CodaKid projects will not run properly on iPads or Chromebooks. The one exception is Scratch, which runs in a web browser, so Chromebooks and Linux work for Scratch lessons. Younger kids taking Scratch will need a mouse.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes, our Teacher Guarantee. If the instructor is not a good fit after the first paid session, you can cancel the subscription and get a refund of that first payment. Ask for the refund before your child’s second paid session. This is available once per initial enrollment.
